Are you a strong leader that others look to follow? Are you someone who can inspire others to be motivated and perform their best? Do you have what it takes to lead others in turbulent challenging times? Do people listen carefully to what you say and want to follow your ideas? Do you truly have the respect of your employees and colleagues or do you just think you do? Please complete all items. Rate each item on a scale of 1-5. Please choose one number and do not write a decimal, such as 3.5. Select the answer that best represents your feelings, thoughts, and behaviours. Choose how true each statement is for you.

Total Score 150-200

This score indicates a high likelihood that you are very effective as leader. You are an inspirational, creative, passionate, and visionary leader. You are a person of integrity. You say what you do and do what you say. You have respect for others no matter what their position in the organization and have a good understanding of how each individual makes a positive difference in the success of the organization. Your employees trust you and respect you as a leader with vision and confidence. You are able to make decisions under pressure and recognize
the perfection of learning from mistakes. You seem to have a good understanding of the delicate balance of great leadership in keeping interest in others, as well as, attending to your personal needs. You likely have the respect and admiration of your employees and colleagues. Others will seek out your advice.

Your score indicates that you are an effective leader. You may have a few areas that you would like to develop, although overall you are successful as an effective leader. You may tend to get lost in one area of leadership and loose sight of the holistic requirement of a leader, perhaps getting caught up in details. Although you are a good communicator, it is possible that at times your intentions are misunderstood. It may be required that at times you take a step back and be more mindful of a given moment to fully appreciate the situation. You may take interest in your employees to develop them further, and to develop yourself. You recognize that your team is an extension of your work and form a win/win team philosophy.

This score indicates that that you have some strength as an effective leader and have some areas to work on. You may not easily share information with others or lack the understanding of the importance of sharing information with others. It is possible that at times you are sought out for advice and other times avoided. Perhaps this is due to a lack of communication that others feel unsure of your reactions/behaviour. Leadership efficacy is about other people and the importance of how they feel around you. An efficient leader will have employees wanting to be in his/her presence. You may not take the time to make others feel important or take the time to explain to them their purpose at their job. It is important that you take the time to ensure you are treating each employee as a unique and valuable individual.

The results of this assessment indicate that you are significantly lacking in your leadership skills. You need to work hard on improving these skills. You may be distant and unapproachable. Your employees need to feel a sense of security and trust, a knowing that no matter what, you will support them. Skills such as being open, fearless, persistent and considerate are vital for effective leaders. You may not take the time to get to know what obstacles lie ahead of your team and thus find ways to assist. Your team and colleagues need to know that you are reliable and resourceful. The only way this can be known is through communications, as well as, persistent and repeatable actions. You may not use your authority for the greater good of your team and your organization. Leadership skills can be taught, with practice and persistence you can become an effective leader.
